I am not a pirate, but I long to be... *

* a line from one old pirate shanty.
All rights reserved to some pirates...
(blah blah blah... just to be on a safe side)

You can argue whole day that the Copyright is good, it protects authors and owners of intellectual property, but I'd vote for Piratepartiet if I could be a citizen of Sweden, and that's why...

I agree that the law works against users and sometimes the implementation of the law leads to ridiculous situations.
We need the right to share the things we like with friends and relatives, and we need to declare this right and regulation of it some other way than it is done today. Otherwise the current law leads us the situation when you'll have to buy 2 copies of song just in case if you want to listen it with you girlfriend(boyfriend). Sounds funny, but... let's discuss every topic in Chapter Two of The Case For Copyright Reform (1) (must I write here some kind of copyright reference?).

  • Moral Rights Unchanged
" Nobody should be allowed to claim that they are ABBA, or have written all of Paul McCartney’s songs, unless they actually are or have. To the extent that this is a real world problem, it should still be illegal to do so. "
Do you have any objections? I don't think so. Stealing of others works or ideas is bad and must be punished, we all know that from the childhood.

  • Free Non-Commercial Sharing
" We want to restore copyright to its origins, and make absolutely clear that it only regulates copying for commercial purposes. To share copies, or otherwise spread or make use of use somebody else’s copyrighted work, should never be prohibited if it is done by private individuals without a profit motive. Peer-to-peer file sharing is an example of such an activity that should be legal. "
It's so right and wrong in the same way. To be honest, I was the guy who grabbed Mp3s  from original CDs and shared with friends, I copied songs from audio and video tapes just to share them and this sounds right. Why can't you share something that you already bought with some friends, if they like the same things as you are? But there is no defined line between sharing for masses or for small group. The Torrent Trackers use the same P2P technology, but the scale of the sharing, the amount of copies shared sometimes exceeds thousands.Such amount can already hardly impact on small company with restricted market area. So, I think that there is still place for discussion as the "non-commercial sharing" definition must be narrowed.

  • 20 Years Of Commercial Monopoly
" We want to shorten the protection time to something that is reasonable from both society’s and an investor’s point of view, and propose 20 years from publication. "
You know, I was reading the topic, especially the info about current protection period duration in 70+ years , and realized that I won't see some of great things in my life, due to the exclusiveness of rights, expensiveness and life expectancy (current is 73.2 years (2)). As we know, there were a lot of facts in history, when inventions went to masses just after the end of protection period, so the period works against progress and improvement in our lives.

  • Registration After 5 Years
" The majority of these works have little or no commercial value, but since they are still covered by copyright, they cannot be reused or distributed because there is nobody to ask for permission. "
I convince, I haven't asked any pirates to post the line from the Pirate Shanty as headline of the post. Haven't found any contacts, sorry... I have nothing to say about this. Suppose that this is evident that if there is no any possibility to define the author, the property can be shared free.

  • Free Sampling
We want to change this by introducing clear exceptions and limitations to allow remixes and parodies, as well as quotation rights for sound and audiovisual material modeled after the quotation rights that already exist for text. "
My favourite part of Chapter II, because I was "punished" 3 times by videos in Facebook and Youtube, despite the fact that the access to them was restricted to small auditory. That's why I say that the current situation in Copyright leads to ridiculous situations.

1st ban of video on Youtube I got for the usage of "free to use" soundtrack from  Sony Movie Maker. You won't guess the reason: The track was too short for my video, so I put it on repeat... This led to situation, when the end and the beginning of track together were similar to the sample of one well known music composition, so... yeah... according to law, I stole the sample.

2nd ban of video on Youtube I got for the music on the background. I wanted to share the dance of my daughter with relatives. The video was available by link only... however, the sound was removed.

3rd ban of video I got on Facebook. I mixed some gif animations made by Google Photos from my videos with song of Rammstein...a small sample of song. It was available to my friends only, but still "Dura lex sed lex".

Don't you agree that this is stupid to ban for background music or 2 second sample even not used by you?

  • A Ban of DRM
" DRM is an acronym for “Digital Rights Management”, or “Digital Restrictions Management”. The term is used to denote a number of different technologies that all aim to restrict consumers’ and citizens’ ability use and copy works, even when they have a legal right to do so. "
How it was? Dumb Restrictions Management. One day I lost a music collection on located on Sony Phone, when the phone died. It was one of the first phones with built in DRM check and without any methods to move bought and protected by DRM property. So I have all rights to hate this technology. It protects authors, but works against users.

As conclusion, I agree with the Pirate Party, that Copyright laws nowadays are made for earning every cent from every 1 or 0 in code of digital world and that's sad. We need to modify them to protect our rights to use property we paid for, we need right to share things we like and we something to protect progress in things that have meaning to whole humanity.

Or someday I'll get caught for photo of Mona Liza painting...

By the way, the post in the blog as the blog itself is very very copyrighted by me... :) but feel free to share any part of it.

And...I want to say Hello to Facebook...(otherwise the text is very unattractive without pictures or videos).
